Self-ligating braces have only two components:

• a lock with a door
• wire to move the teeth.

The wire is passed through the door of the lock and then fixed by closing the door. That’s why rubber bands or ligatures are not necessary.

The wire is not attached to the braces – it just passes through the bracket – so the tooth movements are more precise, and the level of comfort is significantly higher.
